TAG Farnborough Airport expands environmental program

TAG Farnborough Airport in the UK joined Calthorpe Park School in Fleet recently to plant 150 trees at the school site as part of its environment management program. Calthorpe Park School is one of 16 schools and wildlife reserves near TAG Farnborough Airport that will receive 3,500 trees as part of the program this spring.

The tree-planting, in association with Carbon Footprint, is taking place in the local vicinity, and also at a conservation project in the Amazon rainforest, to help TAG Farnborough Airport offset its 2017 carbon emissions. The airport has monitored its carbon footprint since 2008, and already reduced it by 30% since that time. It hopes to reach carbon neutrality by 2019.

Miles Thomas, environment manager at TAG Farnborough Airport, said, “The environment has always been important to us and we monitor our carbon footprint very closely. The tree planting is part of our carbon offsetting activities which will help us reach our goal of carbon neutrality. It is encouraging to see that our neighbors support us in this.”

Martin Amos and Melanie Hooper, head teachers at Calthorpe Park School, added, “Once the trees are planted, the school will be actively involved in their care. We’re hoping our students will run projects to report on the wildlife spotted on-site, due to the new habitats. We are delighted to have been chosen to receive these trees as part of TAG Farnborough Airport’s initiative, as care for the environment is a strong value for our school.”
