Sacramento McClellan Airport passes ownership to McClellan Park

Sacramento McClellan Airport (KMCC) is to operate as a privately-owned public use airport, after McClellan Park acquired the county-owned McClellan Airfield. The change in ownership was approved by Sacramento County in late September.

In addition to serving private plane owners and companies, the airport also functions as a main flight hub and home for government agencies and emergency services operators, such as the US Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento. The airport also has the largest aerial retardant reload base in the USA, and is one of the largest privately-held airports for public use in the country.

Scott Owens, executive vice president and COO of Sacramento McClellan Airport, said, “The privatization of the airport allows us to be extremely nimble in accommodating our customers. We’re already hard at work in making ground improvements and, so far, the feedback has been very, very good.”

McClellan Jet Services, the airport’s on-site FBO, will continue to provide fueling with Jet A and Avgas, ground services, a crew lounge, snooze rooms, car and hotel arrangements, transient and full-time tie down, and other services.

Larry Kelley, president and CEO of Sacramento McClellan Airport, added, “We look forward to making the airport Sacramento’s premier aviation destination. The airport’s close proximity to downtown paired with the amenities of McClellan Park make it a good fit for private, business and government flight operations.”
