The first cross-border chartered helicopter flight between Shenzhen and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was conducted last month.
The flight, which took place on June 28, was made by an Airbus H135 light twin-engine helicopter and lasted around 15 minutes. The helicopter travelled from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport to Hong Kong Shun Tak Heliport, reported Chinese state news agency Xinhuanet.
The helicopter is being operated by the Shenzhen Eastern General Aviation Company (Shenzhen Eastern GAC) in south China’s Guangdong Province. It is the first certified general aviation company in China to operate helicopter flights between Guangdong and Hong Kong.
“We are committed to playing a leading role in the low-altitude air transportation in the Greater Bay Area,” said Zhao Qi, chairman of Shenzhen Eastern GAC.
He disclosed that the company had targeted building up a three-dimensional transportation system around the area with a helicopter platform centered in Shenzhen in five years.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong cross-border helicopter flight will upgrade the business travel efficiency of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Initially the service will be for chartered flights with plans for regular heli-flights underway.
