TAG Aviation Macau’s general manager, Rita Tam discusses the biggest challenges facing business aviation.
Can you share your journey into the aviation industry and how you came to work at TAG Macau FBO?
I started my business aviation career at Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre in 2002. After TAG successfully received the Macau FBO tender in 2018, I had a good opportunity to join the team.
What are the key responsibilities of your role at TAG Macau FBO?
As the general manager, I currently oversee the whole business and operation of the FBO.
What challenges does operating an FBO in Macau present?
Since we have two FBOs in Macau, flight movements are far less than we anticipated after the
Covid pandemic.
What has been your most significant achievement during your time at TAG Macau FBO?
Receiving ISBAH Stage 3 after only five years of operation. This makes us one of the youngest operations in the region to achieve the highest level.
How does TAG Macau FBO stand out in the competitive landscape of private aviation?
With TAG’s heritage and established business, TAG Macau has a very good reputation which the industry recognizes which helps allow our clients to feel confident in our standard of service.
What are some of the biggest challenges currently facing the private aviation sector?
I’ve noticed that business feels a lot different after the pandemic. I also think that because of the economic situations currently impacting the world, there are a lot fewer passengers using private aviation in Macau.
What emerging trends in the aviation industry do you think will have the most impact in the next five to 10 years?
I believe drones and air taxis will play a large role in business aviation in the next decade, especially in Macau as we can see the trend in mainland China is growing. I also think there will be a focus on enhancing passenger experiences with a focus on automated arrival and departure procedures which will enhance the overall airport experience.
How is TAG Macau FBO addressing the growing demand for sustainability in the aviation sector?
According to the Macau Airport plan, carbon offsetting is one of the items on the agenda. We will gradually replace and operate electric vehicles in the airport. We do support sustainable aviation fuel, but that needs the support from the airport too.
Where do you see TAG Macau FBO in the next five years?
We believe more flights will return to Macau finally.
What advice would you give to someone interested in a career in business aviation?
I believe passion and a good attitude are two of the most important attributes you need to have a successful career in business aviation.
