Western, a real estate development and design-build firm specializing in the aviation industry, is to build a new corporate hangar development at San Antonio International Airport in Texas.
The 8.87-acre area is a redevelopment of the Hawker Beechcraft site and features seven hangars ranging in size from 12,000ft² (1,110m²) to more than 15,000ft² (1,400m²), with 28ft (8.5m) tall doors and attached offices on several units. The development is scheduled to break ground in autumn 2018, with completion expected within 12 months.
Western is designing, building, financing, and leasing back the facilities to independent corporate clients. All units have been fully reserved and currently there is a waitlist for other interested parties.
Russ Handy, aviation director for the City of San Antonio, said, “This US$25m, multi-hangar development initiative is the largest single private/corporate capital project in San Antonio International Airport’s history. Partnerships like this are not just good news for the San Antonio International Airport but for all of San Antonio as the economic impact will be substantial for the entire region.”
Alex Langlinais, client executive at Western who is overseeing the day-to-day operations of this project, added, “We are excited to work on this new built-to-suit hangar development at the San Antonio International Airport. This is our first major project with the airport and we look forward to serving the people of San Antonio.”
Langlinais is currently based at Western’s recently opened office located at the airport and will be maintaining and developing relationships with clients in the San Antonio, Austin, and Houston areas by being the point of contact for all Western projects and developments.
